Biography
Bradley Barth, M.D., M.P.H. is the Division Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Children’s HealthSM and a Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern. He has a special interest in endoscopic therapy, particularly using it for pancreatic and biliary disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding and esophageal strictures.
“No day is the same in Pediatric Gastroenterology,” Dr. Barth says. “This is a medical specialty that studies and treats multiple organs throughout the body. Disease severity ranges from mild to severe with patients cared for in multiple sites from the clinic to our procedure suite to intensive care units. As a Pediatric GI specialist, the opportunity to help children and their families is massive.”
Dr. Barth earned his medical degree from the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. He completed his internship and residency at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Since joining Children’s Health in 2004, Dr. Barth has helped build a nationally recognized gastroenterology and hepatology division with more than 35 specialists and 20 disease-specific programs that serve over 30,000 patients annually. He also led the development of an advanced therapeutic endoscopy program – one of the few in the country offering such specialized procedures for children – where he and his team perform approximately 100 ERCPs and 50 endoscopic ultrasounds each year.
Dr. Barth has won the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Endoscopy Prize multiple times and is a fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
In his spare time, Dr. Barth enjoys ice cream, outdoor cooking, music, movies, TV and all college and professional sports.
